Vendor Spotlight: Nick Breedlove Photography
You've picked the date, you've booked your venue, you've nailed down your guest list... what's next? Assembling your wedding dream team!
Working in the wedding industry over the past ten years, I'm often asked "who do you recommend?" That's a great question and I love going through the vendor list and guiding you through the choices of wedding professionals.
Over the next few months, I'm going to feature some of our favorite wedding vendors. There are so many talented professionals in Western North Carolina, and I am excited to share them with you!
One of the most important vendors to book is your wedding photographer; therefore, it's appropriate to start the Vendor Spotlight Series with one of my all time favorites. Below is a q&a with Nick

Tell us a little about Nick Breedlove Photography?
Nick Breedlove Photography started over a decade ago. Evolving over the years, the focus has shifted from commercial photography to wedding photography, which is my specialty. I love nothing more than documenting everything the day of the wedding, from start-to-finish. I’ve shot all over the country and in every condition imaginable – rain, shine, and snow! I’m currently at 275 weddings photographed, and there’s not something I haven’t encountered, so I’m prepared for anything and everything that might happen on the wedding day.
What led you to wedding photography?
I’ve had a camera in my hand since I was eight years old, documenting the world around me. I was also a journalist for over a decade. It was the natural evolution and marrying of those two loves to use the camera to tell the story of a wedding day in photos.
Describe your photography style in 3 words:
Clean, beautiful and timeless.
What do you love most about being a wedding photographer in Western North Carolina?
The views are second-to-none in North Carolina. I’ve photographed weddings everywhere, and this will always be the most beautiful place to get married. The mountains provide the most scenic backdrop.
What is your favorite part of a wedding day?
Photographing the quiet moments before the big day begins – hair, makeup, details – rings, shoes, dress; bridesmaids and groomsmen getting ready. It’s my favorite time of day because it’s relaxed, fun and casual coverage before everything starts!
What’s in your camera bag?
Two Canon 5D III’s and several prime lenses; also a mini-leatherman (bride’s always ask if anyone has scissors) and a few safety pins (another common request)
What is something you wish couples knew?
Don’t look on Pinterest for photos you want your photographer to take. Let your photographer create real, beautiful and authentic moments from your day rather than try to recreate staged, posed and stale moments from someone else’s wedding or a styled shoot. Allow your photographer complete creative control, and you’ll be thrilled with the photographs they deliver.
Can you share three of your favorite wedding photos of all time?
What advice do you have for friends/family/clients when booking their wedding?
Start planning as far out as possible, preferably a year as venues and vendors book up quickly.
Don’t shop by price when it comes to vendors. Everyone has a budget to work with but shop by quality, references, and recommendations. I don’t even reply to potential client e-mails who are shopping around and comparing my prices to another photographer. I let them go to another photographer if they’re basing it solely on a number.
